MORE SELECTIONS FROM MY VERY OLD ARCHIVES

The Clown        18 x 24        Tempera on Kraft Paper       $75

painting done in 1951 at age 10

This pair of watercolors were done in 1964 (I think) on a camping trip across Canada and the US. One day in New York I was elbowed in the face, while attempting to get on a bus, one too many times and I thought that if I stayed in the city for another day I would become just like them.  I said to myself, “go see the Rocky Mountains and get restored to sanity” so I called my friend and soon we set off in her car with a $22 pup tent from Sears with our mission to go visit a favorite teacher (Biology at Germantown Friends School) who lived in Seattle. Ah Youth! We criss-crossed the border many times so I am not sure if these were done in the US or in Canada. They have lived for all this time in my flat file, unseen, and unappreciated, especially by me, until my 50 Year Retrospective show in 2005. Now they hang in my office! Somehow my crude attempts seem much better 40 years later.

This pair of small oil panels were done during the 1980s when we lived on our small sailboat cruising the inland waterway. Left is “Up the Severn River” and right is “North Carolina Low Country”. For years they hung in the cabin of our boat on the locker doors.
