When I started the Feeling Series I thought Anger would be the most difficult painting, so I started with that one first. However, little did I know how hard Fear would be! The first problem was setting up the still life near a window so I could simulate the light of lightning illuminating the objects. I had been in my new studio in Westerly for 6 months before I realized that it was the perfect place for painting Fear. I started this painting just as my life took a serious downturn, and over the two years I sporadically worked on it I usually had it face to the wall so I didn’t have to look at it. As difficult as this painting was for me personally, I am proud that it is finally finished and makes exactly the statement I originally intended. |
