GICLEE PRINTS

WHAT IS A GICLEE PRINT?

The word itself is French for “spray” or “spit”. The method of printing is the same as the ink jet printer hooked to your computer, only much bigger, and much more sophisticated and way much more expensive. Another name for Giclee prints is “Iris” which refers to the type of printer used. There are a number of manufacturers now, quite a lot of research has been done, and the inks that are used are archival and will last many years.

Artists love this process because we can afford to have our work reproduced and our clients can order prints on a custom basis! If your space is only 20 inches tall and you want one of my paintings that is  30 x 48 I can provide you with a print that will be 12½ x 20. It can be mounted on stretchers and framed, or it can be printed on archival paper and matted and framed under glass.

These are beautiful reproductions. They are unconditionally guaranteed and if they don’t meet with your expectations a full refund will gladly be given. Canvas prints are so much like the original painting it takes close inspection to tell otherwise. All prints have a certificate of authenticity with them.

Unfortunately some artists have used the Giclee process to sell art that are sold as  “original” paintings when all they have done is get a print of a painting and work a small area over the print. Sometimes this is called an “embellished print” and will be sold for more money than a print. I believe this practice flirts close to fraud and will never embellish my prints to make more money.

 PAPER OR CANVAS? CUSTOM SIZES?

We can reproduce my Feeling Series in their original size on canvas. Technically we could do the same on paper, but it is impractical due to framing problems with larger size prints on paper so I have simply priced the prints on paper at half their original size. Canvas prints look exactly like my original painting, while the prints on paper are quite lovely matted and framed under glass or plastic. Because of the nature of Giclee printing I can order special sizes for these prints, and invite you to call or email me with questions about custom orders. If you have a spot that requires the print to be a different height or width from what I have figured on the order form please inquire about the price. I can order any size and can let you know what the opposing dimension and new price will be.

FRAMING AND SHIPPING

Canvas prints should be mounted on wooden stretcher bars, light or medium weight should be strong enough. Large sizes should be braced in the back. You, or your framer, can do this with a staple gun and a little patience. Guidance for do-it-yourself framing is easily obtained by calling 813 779-3570 or email me (go to “Contact Me” for address).

Paper prints should be matted and mounted under glass or plastic.

The prints will be mailed rolled and the price of postage and handling are figured into the prices.
