There are a few advantages to living in Florida. Most people think it is warm, balmy and beautiful all the time but the truth is that Florida has a brutal climate, quite cold on occasion in the winter, unbearably hot and humid in the summer and either too dry or too wet the rest of the time. It was not a shock to me because I had experienced all these extremes living on a sailboat in Florida. But I had forgotten the incredible show in the sky on a nearly daily basis. These gorgeous sunsets and sunrises last a long time and present a changing panoply of colors and shapes in the clouds. Nearly every day after I moved here I raced outside with my camera and thanks to digital photography my collection grew exponentially until I had to use some discipline about shooting all these skies on a daily basis. This pastel was done on LaCarte paper which I had not used before. I liked the way it grabbed pigment, but it took a lot of pastel off the stick and I later found a pastel ground I like better than LaCarte.
