The Pond at Dawn 16 x 24 pastel on panel $400 (framed) |
|
I never get tired of the Florida skies at dawn and at sunset. Every one seems slightly different than the one before. This small pond is in our community in Zephyrhills, and without the tacky mobile home houses which I edited out of the painting, it seems so serene and pastoral! I am an early person and so I often am out and about as the sun is rising, and of course the camera is always at hand.
I started this pastel as a demonstration for the Art Club of Sun City Center in January of 2007. During the next months I worked on it as a demonstration in my pastel class at Sun City Center. I used Art Spectrum Primer on board and it grabbed a good juicy amount of pigment. Because it was very thick and there was so much black carrying into everything, I decided to heavily spray it, using the cheap variety of fixative and much to my dismay the can was so old the nozzle was clogged and out came blobs of fixative that nearly ruined the pastel. I had to overwork the entire thing, hopefully making it better in the reworking. |
