There are
several types of art reproductions on the market today, all of
which are totally confusing to the uninitiated public. I am not
thrilled with the glut of Giclée prints, but sell them myself on
a limited basis. I am careful to make a distinction between a
reproduction and the original painting and I never "embellish"
my Giclées to get more money. A Giclée is a high tech print
using ink-jet printers that usually have special inks and
technicians who can tweak the colors and come up with a print
that appears almost identical to the original. There are great
Giclée makers just like great artists, and then there are the
others. When you buy an art print today it usually is an
oversized inkjet printer that did the work, just like the little
printer on your desk.
In the old
days artists who wanted to reproduce their work were limited to
offset lithography and this was a very costly way to market
their work. We all love Giclées because they are much cheaper,
better, and we can get reproductions that are large, often as
big as the original painting, and we have a choice of printing
on paper or canvas, and we can buy them one at a time! All this
amounts to a bonanza in the artists bag of tricks in marketing
their work. The printing of the work is only going to be as good
as the photography that goes into the computer, and usually this
is where the money is.
My
Feeling Series paintings are somewhat special Giclée
Reproductions which I have decided to leave out of this page but
direct you here to a download of my Giclée Price sheet. Yes,
they are expensive, but they are less than the originals!

However, I
have a wide format printer on which I can print up to 13 x 19
prints and frequently offer prints of my work, including the
Feeling Series, that I simply call "Digital Reproductions".
They are not as high a quality as a Giclée, and therefore much
less expensive. I print on Arches Watercolor paper or Rives BFK
etching paper and the prints are matted and gallery wrapped. Any
of my work may be turned into a digital reproduction, provided I
have a high enough resolution photograph of it.
